LUDHIANA: That school students are becoming increasingly technology friendly is evident from the changing modes of study. Averse to spending too much time writing things down, many city students have taken to solving model papers online. "Studying online is a great option and using a smart phone speeds up the learning and revising process dramatically," said 16-year-old Ayushi Singal.
The smart phone is evolving into a study tool for many students preparing for their board exams. They have even created study groups using mobile applications to exchange notes and discuss concepts. Baani Chawla, 14, a resident of BRS Nagar, spends hours on her smart phone and no, she is not whiling her time away. According to the science student, "Studying through technology is a great experience. Answers to my questions are just a click away."
However, the penchant for swift, online revision on smart phones is not to the liking of parents who feel this will affect students' eyesight. With the children spending as many as 7 to 8 hours on their phones, their fears may be well-founded.
Dr Jatinder Mohan, an specialist said, "Continuous use of phones and tablets can lead to stress and strain for the eyes. Students should be careful not to exceed the limit."
